The Communications Associate will be responsible for overseeing the writing, editing, proofreading, and production of printed material disseminated by the Department of Surgery - this includes newsletters, blog posts, letters of recommendation, various brochures, reports and website.


The candidate should have excellent written and proofreading skills, be flexible and open to change and possess thorough attention to detail. This position requires a high level of self motivation, commitment and dedication to a very dynamic work environment.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and create content for website, articles, newsletters, annual reports, html e-mail updates, marketing materials and other publications.
  • Copy, edit, and rewrite content for different target audiences.
  • Manage content of departmental blog.
  • Interview individuals for news stories and/or blogs.
  • Edit production of departmental newsletter.
  • Gather information to aid and prepare writings and publications.
  • Proofread all printed department publications.
  • Prepare internal and external letters of recommendation for admission, promotions, awards, etc.
  • Work closely with internal and external marketing and communication team(s) to edit and proofread, web content, articles, brochures and/or interview publication.
  • Interview faculty, patients, third parties to prepare and produce written, video and/or other materials for news releases and communications.
  • Write stories in a variety of formats, including AP news style, consumer-oriented web, and newsletter styles.
  • Ensure that all materials meet established standards as to appearance and content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
