The Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is located in the Jamail Specialty Care Center on the McNair Campus at Baylor College of Medicine. Our physicians rank among the best in their field, recognized locally, nationally and internationally by the specialty organizations in otolaryngology. In addition to ear, nose and throat (ENT) training, all of our physicians have subspecialty training in areas that include otology and neurotology, head and neck cancer, allergy, pediatric otolaryngology, sinus surgery, facial plastic surgery, sleep disorder surgery, laryngeal surgery and applied research.

Job Duties

  • Develops and executes communication projects that promote the department including but not limited to: blog posts, website updates, social media content, and printed marketing material and newsletters.
  • Communicates with faculty and departmental leadership to develop communication and identify networking and outreach opportunities. 
  • Researches current trends that can be implemented strategically to achieve departmental goals. 
  • Utilizes analytics to direct efforts to improve visibility and target desired audience.
  • Facilitates regular meetings with service line chiefs along with department administrator and practice manager, to discuss business opportunities and needs related to internal and external communication, work with department leadership to determine budget and feasibility of ideas and opportunities. 
  • Produces annual newsletter reflecting on departmental accomplishments for distribution to referring providers, alumni, prospective residents and fellows. 
  • Works with new/existing faculty to update printed materials for individuals and service lines, offer ideas to improve clarity and patient facing material.
  • Monitors effectiveness and engagement related to social media posts and help tailor content specific to service line-specifically for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. 
  • Ensures content is available to recognize important calendar dates as well as departmental and College events, serve as liaison between department and College, particularly with IT and central communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, or business. 
  • Experience managing social media, creating web content, ideally in a healthcare setting.
