Salary Range:  $70,618 - $83,080
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine Cardiovascular Center is seeking a candidate for a Communications Associate. The Center is a collaboration of physicians, surgeons, and researchers across multiple specialties and disciplines. The Communications Associate supports the execution of communications and marketing initiatives across digital platforms, content development, and internal communications in collaboration with the BCM Office of Communications. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day content needs, maintaining the Center's website, and supporting visibility efforts for clinical, research, and Center priorities. This role is ideal for a communications professional who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable executing across multiple channels. This is a hands-on role focused on content production, website management, and coordinated communications execution.

 

As part of the interview process, candidates will have the opportunity to share samples of their writing and digital communications work.

Job Duties

Internal Communications 

  • Support internal communications including newsletters and organizational updates.
  • Coordinate with physicians, researchers, and administrative teams to gather content and ensure accuracy.
  • Help maintain consistency of messaging across departments and initiatives. 

 

Content Creation

  • Write and edit blog posts, and feature articles highlighting physicians, research, and Center initiatives.
  • Translate complex medical and scientific information into clear, accessible content.
  • Draft quotes for physicians and leadership for use in web and promotional materials.
  • Support development of newsletters and recurring content series.
  • Develop promotional content for conferences, symposiums, and institutional events.
  • Draft email announcements, speaker highlights, and event-related web content.
  • Support social and digital promotion of events.
  • Collaborate with design resources to develop graphics for web, social, and promotional use.
  • Provide input on visual concepts that support storytelling and campaigns.
  • Draft and schedule social media content promoting stories, events, and institutional milestones. 
  • Adapt messaging for different platforms (LinkedIn, X, etc.). 
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. 
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in communications, content development, and/or digital marketing.
  • Experience in healthcare, academic medicine, or research environments.
  • Experience managing website content within a CMS (e.g., WordPress or similar).
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva). 
  • Basic understanding of SEO and digital content optimization.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content best practices.
  • Experience supporting event promotion and communications campaigns. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
