Job Purpose

The Cloud Services Architect has responsibility for architecture, design, and implementation of cloud based solutions, including private, public, and hybrid cloud deployment models for Baylor College of Medicine. Responsibilities also include designing and building service models for cloud including Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, and Software-as-a-Service. Work with other Office of Information Technology (OIT) team members and end users to understand business requirements and identify cloud solutions. The Cloud Services Architect serves a critical role to further Baylor OIT’s adoption of Cloud. The Cloud Services Architect will further guide the direction of OIT through assisting in the development of new business processes including cloud operational governance, cloud application and service readiness and risk mitigation methodologies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Leads the design, development and implementation of Baylor OIT’s cloud services and cloud adoption strategy.
  • Provides architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to other OIT architects, systems engineers, and system administrators.
  • Leads the Enterprise Technology team in the adoption of a Hybrid Cloud model future, with the development and the consumption of public and community cloud as business and applications requirements dictate.
  • Leads the Enterprise Technology team in the design of the infrastructure for data center processes and technologies to meet operational objectives for cloud.
  • Leads collaboration between core infrastructure and line of business application teams related to cloud adoption.
  • Documents and develops in-depth knowledge of Baylor’s existing IT cloud architecture/infrastructure, and technology portfolio.
  • Conducts research on emerging cloud technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts, and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility.
  • Assists in the management of cloud services support escalations between application/core enterprise teams and cloud service providers.
  • Seeks innovative solutions to problems and makes recommendations for implementations.
  • Participates in business requirement gathering sessions, gathers user data requirements, understand the user requirements and assist in the reconciliation of technical and business requirements as they relate to cloud.
  • Participates in the evaluation and recommendation of the appropriate cloud management platform tools, procedures, and facilities for creating and maintaining the enterprise cloud services model.
  • Maintains, governs and enforces cloud architecture-related standards.
  • Provides project reports and other documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provides quality assurance for respective projects.
  • Identifies and evaluates future technologies for applicable solutions.
  • Documents and develops in-depth knowledge of Baylor’s existing OIT cloud architecture/infrastructure and technology portfolio.
  • Resolves conflicting priorities, prioritizes projects and allocates resources to address needs.
  • Promotes effective written and verbal communications.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
Experience:
  • Required: Five years of relevant experience.
