Job Purpose

Internal Title:  Cloud Services Architect

External Title:  Research Cloud Solutions Architect

The Research Cloud Solutions Architect (RCSA) will be responsible for architecture, design and implementation of solutions that address the needs of the Baylor’s Research stakeholders. The RCSA serves a critical role in ensuring that Baylor OIT continues to be the thought leader in technology and will partner with stakeholders to ensure the solutions provided meet/exceed expectations. Responsibilities include designing and building service models for cloud adoption across various fronts including storage, compute, applications and collaboration. The RCSA will work with other Baylor OIT team members to develop new business processes and standards including cloud operational governance, cloud adoption plans and risk mitigation methodologies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Leads the design, development and implementation of Baylor OIT’s Research cloud adoption strategy and manages the adoption process.
  • Brings a positive attitude and strong commitment to deliver quality solutions in a collaborative manner.
  • Develops, maintains, governs and enforces Research cloud architecture related standards and processes.
  • Evaluates cloud applications, hardware and software to provide innovative solutions to problems and makes recommendations for implementations.
  • Participates in business requirement gathering sessions, gathers user data requirements, understand the user requirements and designs/proposes technology solutions to address the needs.
  • Works closely with all Baylor stakeholders to develop in-depth knowledge of Baylor’s existing cloud architecture/infrastructure, and technology portfolio for Research.
  • Seeks innovative solutions to problems and evaluates technology landscape for applicable solutions.
  • Leads the Baylor OIT teams approach toward Research technology design of the infrastructure for data center processes and technologies to meet operational objectives.
  • Leads collaboration between research, core infrastructure and line of business application teams related to research technology/cloud adoption.
  • Assists in the management of cloud services support escalations between application/core enterprise teams and cloud service providers.
  • Conducts research on emerging cloud technologies and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and solution flexibility.
  • Provides architectural consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to other OIT architects, systems engineers, and system administrators.
  • Rationalizes the adoption of a Hybrid Cloud solution, with the consumption of public, private and community cloud capabilities as business and application requirements dictate.
  • Provides project reports and other documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provides quality assurance for respective projects.
  • Resolves conflicting priorities, prioritizes projects and allocates resources to address needs.
     
Minimum Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience.
     
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS and/or Azure Cloud Certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Healthcare IT setting.
