Summary

The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Veterinarian to provide services in the Large Animal Core, a satellite of the Center for Comparative Medicine. This position will be on an as-needed basis in the absence of the site clinical veterinarian. 

Job Duties

  • Monitor large animals (bovine, swine, and ovine) in a post-surgical critical care unit.
  • Administer prescriptions and monitors subject medications.
  • Adhere to established research protocols and complies with all applicable IACUC and IRB policies and procedures.
  • May assist in surgical procedures as needed under the direction of the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine principal investigator.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD).
  • Two years of relevant experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
  • Licensed Veterinarian by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Provisional license is accepted at the time of hire, however, Veterinary License by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners must be obtained within six months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) approved residency training program in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
  • Specialized knowledge or experience with rodent health monitoring and/or aquatic species.
  • American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) board certification.
