Summary
The Chief Quality Officer (CQO) of Baylor Medicine is responsible for setting and advancing the strategic vision for quality, patient safety, and the patient experience across the organization. As Chair of the Quality and Safety Committee, the CQO provides executive oversight of Baylor Medicine’s Quality Program, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, regulatory standards, and evidence-based practices. The CQO serves as the organizational champion for quality and safety initiatives, driving performance improvement, fostering a culture of high reliability, and promoting exceptional patient outcomes. Additionally, the CQO represents Baylor Medicine within affiliate partnerships, leading collaborative efforts to advance quality, safety, and value-based care initiatives across the health system.
Reporting Structure
- Reports directly to the Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs, or designee, and works in collaboration with Department Chairs, COO, President’s team, Medical Directors, and Clinical Administrators to manage quality, safety, and patient experience throughout the Baylor Medicine clinical enterprise.
- Direct reports include quality nurses and/or other support and analytic FTEs relevant to the clinical quality mission
- Works collaboratively with other members of the Baylor Medicine Council and/or their direct reports to enhance the clinical quality mission.
Clinical Quality, Safety, and Patient Experience
- Provides oversight for planning, administering, monitoring, and reporting on quality, safety, and patient experience activities at Baylor Medicine.
- Facilitates alignment between improvement initiatives and the BCM’s strategic plan.
- Informs and educates providers on the Quality Program and oversees dissemination of quality measure data to department leadership.
- Provides leadership in continuous improvement of patient care and patient experience initiatives and developing strategies to enact such goals
- Ensures clinical operations support regulatory imperatives (e.g., MACRA, MIPS, QPP, ACO measures).
- Works closely with BSLMC on clinical quality, safety and patient experience initiatives and metrics.
- Works closely with BCN, Baylor Med and other appropriate counterparts at hospital affiliates to optimize third party ratings
- Ensures diverse representation from clinical departments on the Baylor Medicine Quality and Safety Committee meetings and disseminates information discussed with department leadership and faculty during organized faculty meetings.
Communication
- Directs planning of the quality improvement agenda for the practice.
- Serves as primary point of contact between institutional and practice committees and the Quality Program.
- Serves as the primary point of contact between BCM and affiliate quality leadership.
- Presents information regularly to practice executive leadership and other physician meetings upon request.
- Receives and communicates feedback provided by department faculty to appropriate management executives and administrators.
Goal Setting
- Partners with clinical leadership in the development and implementation of practice quality goals that align with and support BCM and Baylor Medicine goals.
- Communicates progress on practice goals to executives and departments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.
- Ten years of directly related experience preferably in higher education, healthcare, industry and/or government sectors.
