Summary
The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a certified surgical technologist to provide services in the Large Animal Core, a satellite of the Center for Comparative Medicine. This position will be on an as-needed basis to assist the principal investigator with large animal surgeries.
Job Duties
- Prepares and organizes the operating suite equipment, instruments, and supplies for cardiovascular procedures such as LVAD, pacemakers, heart catheterization, and artificial heart implantation.
- Sets up and maintain a sterile and sanitary environment in compliance with established professional protocols.
Follows relevant safety and sanitation guidelines. - Inspects, replaces, and sterilizes medical instruments as needed.
- Provides surgeons and veterinarians with needed assistance during procedures using proper body mechanics as accepted by the standard of care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a Surgical Technologist Program.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Must obtain Certified Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized knowledge of cardiovascular procedures.
