Summary

The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a certified surgical technologist to provide services in the Large Animal Core, a satellite of the Center for Comparative Medicine. This position will be on an as-needed basis to assist the principal investigator with large animal surgeries. 

 

Position is part-time and will work a flexible schedule 2 hours per week.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and organize the operating suite equipment, instruments, and supplies for cardiovascular procedures such as LVAD, pacemakers, heart catheterization, and artificial heart implantation.
  • Set up and maintain a sterile and sanitary environment in compliance with established professional protocols
    Follow relevant safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments as needed.
  • Provide surgeons and veterinarians with needed assistance during procedures using proper body mechanics as accepted by the standard of care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Surgical Technologist Program.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Must obtain Certified Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized knowledge of cardiovascular procedures.
