Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Baylor College of Medicine section of Pediatric General Surgery has an opening for a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. Working in a high volume and patient-oriented clinic, this position will be responsible for the management of patients with pediatric acute and general surgical conditions under the direct supervision of pediatric Baylor College of Medicine general surgeons. This position comes with a faculty appointment, a competitive salary, and a full benefits package. The candidates' credentials and experience will determine the rank of the academic appointment. Responsibilities include assess, diagnose, monitor, promote health and protection from disease, and manage illnesses and injuries of stable complex acute and chronically-ill pediatric patients. Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. Essential job functions and duties include, but are not limited to:
Job Duties:
- Evaluation of new and returning patients in the ED, inpatient wards and outpatient clinics, including history and physical exams, diagnosis and recommendations for treatment
- Post-operative care including wound care, dressing changes, and DME prescriptions
- Call coverage
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing Studies or Physician Assistant Studies
- APRN recognition by the Texas Board of Nursing or Advanced Physician Assistant certification
- Proficient in the use of surgical instruments and equipment required by work
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services to at least 250 pediatric patient encounters in the past 12 months or completion of training in the past 12 months
