Title: CHofSA Pediatrics - Genetic Counselor
Summary
The Divison of Genetics seeks a full-time genetic counselor to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio. This position has a competitive salary and full benefits package.
Through partnership with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System and Baylor, The Children’s Hospital is the first and only freestanding 240-bed children's hospital in San Antonio and serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide genetic counseling primarily for pediatric patients in outpatient and inpatient settings but will also provide genetic counseling for adult patients including cancer genetic counseling
- Review, elicit, and interpret family, medical and psychosocial histories
- Coordinate the genetic testing process with laboratory, physicians, and patients/families
- Work closely with geneticists, nurses, dieticians, social workers and other genetic counselors to coordinate patient care
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, departmental conferences, meetings, and student/resident teaching
- Reports to Genetic Counselor Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates must have graduated from an ABGC accredited genetic counseling training program and be board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Genetic Counselors. Candidates should also possess excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and oral), strong organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and eagerness to work in a team setting. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
