Summary
Baylor College of Medicine at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio is seeking an Advance Practice Provider to fill a full-time position in the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Cardiology. Job Purpose
Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
- Performs comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams. Formulate and administer appropriate treatment plans.
- Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising physician or other health care professionals.
- Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests within the scope of practice.
- Follows established protocols, when applicable, to manage specific patient problems/illnesses/care in collaboration with supervising physician.
- Order, prescribe, dispense, and administer medication as may be allowed by state legislation.
- Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources.
- Maintains medical record using an electronic medical record, writes accurate notes and orders which are co-signed by supervising physician when appropriate.
- Self-directed with good organizational skills.
- Communicates and works well within a collaborative team environment.
- May supervise the work of a medical assistant, nursing students, medical students and family medicine residents where appropriate.
- Performs other tasks or special assignments as necessary to maintain proper operation and patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: Master’s degree in in Nursing or Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- Experience Required: Background working with children with chronic illness, and knowledge of long-term medications and drug interactions
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP) or Current Texas Licensure as a Physician Assistant, and specialty certification as required by department.
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Life Advanced Support.
