Job Purpose

As a member of the Baylor College of Medicine Supply Chain Management team, the Buyer I will be responsible for supporting Senior Buyer, Procurement Manager, and/or Director Supply Chain, in the procures of goods and services in specific commodity areas following state and institutional guidelines. Participates in cross-functional commodity teams to achieve purchasing objectives while monitoring procurement activities. The Buyer I does not have any direct/indirect reports, budget, or revenue responsibility at this level.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs basic analyses of normalized data such as reviewing price files for changes.Interacts with suppliers and co-workers in a team-based environment.
  • Works with product teams or other procurement staff to generate Request for Quotations (RFQ’s) for new or modified parts.
  • Corresponds with or interviews approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications, and delivery information.
  • Researches and sources suppliers for new items.
  • Consult with suppliers, management, departmental, and faculty resources for contractual agreements and priorities.
  • Participates as a team member and communicates information to appropriate parties at the appropriate time.
  • Encourages positive feedback from all directions.
  • Receptive to critical comments; actively seeks out diverse perspectives.Works under close supervision, with predetermined standards to ensure that materials and/or supplies are purchased in accordance with Baylor policies and procedures.
  • Most of work is not subject to direct check, but errors are typically caught in succeeding operations.
  • Assists in identifying and qualifying new suppliers and/or subcontractors and prepares documentation to recommend adding to approved supplier list pursuant to Baylor procedures.
  • Places orders.
  • Performs vendor relationship management.
  • Performs customer service.
  • Sources products.
  • Clears encumbrances and match exceptions.
  • Performs basic negotiations on prices and pricing files.
  • Performs basic analytical work utilizing Business Intelligence.
  • Liaises with departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Operations, or a related field. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
