The Business Strategy and Development Associate will provide expert project management support and management over BCM Venture (BCMV) projects. The ideal applicant is responsible for initiating, defining, and managing very high-profile projects of considerable complexity. The BCMV projects this role will include are projects related to BCMV’s strategic initiatives and programs that span across BCMV’s cross-functional units and impact internal and external stakeholders pertinent to the mission and vision of BCMV and the College.

This role will also provide advanced professional guidance around projects related to key commercial relationships as BCMV works to manage new strategic alliances and start-ups. This role will support the Senior Manager, Business Strategy and Development in cultivating new relationships to projects that deepen and broaden BCMV’s impact internally and externally to BCM. This role will also support BCMV’s overall strategic planning process, manage the day-to-day operations related to the Incubator program, and will be an integral member of the BCMV team.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned Project Manager who has four to seven years of Project Management experience, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, and Process Improvement experience.

Job Duties

Strategic Planning: 10%

  • Implements strategic planning and annual planning processes for BCM Ventures
  • Tracks BCMV’s annual goals and strategic plan, major college projects, and additional departmental and executive reporting as requested

Project Management: 70%

  • Implements advanced professional project management methodologies to manage key BCMV medium-to-large scale complex projects that also have impact to the College
  • Creates project management tools and templates to support the effective management of key processes such as the commercialization lifecycle and strategic planning processes
  • Works closely with BCMV leadership and technology managers to track activities for reporting and communications
  • Provides professional guidance and project management expertise on strategic initiatives and projects through the management of scope, timeline, budget, risks/issues, comprehensive project documentation, and resources, integrating process improvement methodologies to key operational systems and processes
  • Leads project teams and collaborates with their project sponsors in all aspects of delivery
  • Assumes senior level project leadership responsibility for all projects and serves in a senior and mentoring capacity with project team members and any junior level project manager staff that is onboarded in the future
  • Provides direction and support in implementing all programming (e.g. Drug Discovery program and faculty engagement programs) and contributes to the development of new programming working closely with BCMV cross-functional units, BCM faculty and staff, and external stakeholders as needed
  • Supports the administrative duties related to the management of new strategic alliances (or key commercial relationships), keeping track of key project/agreement milestones and timelines, coordinating leadership meetings, preparing meeting minutes, presentations, and executive summaries, developing dashboards and reports for analysis for key metrics and results
  • Ensures BCMV’s leadership is prepared for making new connections, builds new relationships, leverages existing relationship to broaden its network and strengthening the growth of new/existing commercialization ventures

Operations Management: 20%

  • Leads the management of the operations for the Incubator program (e.g. managing sub-lease agreements, coordinating space utilization, coordinating marketing collateral), communicating effectively with start-up companies and ensuring programmatic success
  • Implements the management of the BCMV internship and fellowship programs
  • Supports BCMV’s commercialization and advisory board committees, including meeting minutes and note taking, prioritizing and following-up on action items, and ensuring committee members are abreast of any communications and associated tasks
  • Provides leadership and direction in making recommendations for program operations, systems, and process improvement changes to senior leaders and implements changes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years of relevant project management experience
  • Certified Project Management Professional, Agile and/or Lean Six Sigma certifications
  • Understands and is conversant in both PMI PMBOK and Agile framework, applying related concepts and practices in day-to-day leadership of assigned efforts
  • Proven success in project managing medium to large-sized and complex projects
  • Experience in leading cross-functional matrixed teams


  • Ability to manage and balance the need of projects with competing deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound knowledge and practice of project management and process improvement methodologies and tools
  • Strong process mapping skills
  • Ability to translate quantitative analysis and data into simplified graphs and dashboards, while providing arrangement of confidential data for faculty, staff, executive leadership and industry partners
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strategic thinking and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and influence cross-functional teams for effective solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Requires the exercise of tact and diplomacy in dealing with faculty, staff, and executive leadership.
  • Advanced utilization of Microsoft Office365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Visio and other productivity/project management tools such as SmartSheets
