Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

A bioinformatics analyst position is available at Texas Children’s Hospital, Department of Pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine. Located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Baylor College of Medicine stands out as a leading academic health science institution, renowned for its excellence in education, research, healthcare, and community service.

 

This role is ideal for an individual passionate about leveraging computational tools to unravel complex biological questions and contribute to pioneering research in various types of diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases, rare diseases, and cancers. Job Duties

  • Data Interpretation: Efficiently process and analyze diverse biological datasets, deriving actionable insights to support our research initiatives.
  • Software Development: Design, implement, and maintain bioinformatics software tools and pipelines, ensuring optimized performance and accuracy.
  • Collaborative Analysis: Work closely with molecular biologists, geneticists, and other researchers to address complex scientific questions.
  • Stay Updated: Regularly review recent scientific literature, integrating new methodologies, tools, and technologies into our analytical processes.
  • Communication: Present findings clearly and concisely to specialist and non-specialist researchers and author/co-author scientific papers.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills with proficiency in Python and/or R. Familiarity with scripting languages like Bash.
  • Minimum of 2 years of research or working experience in a computational field, preferably with a focus on genomics. 
  • Proven experience in statistical analysis and machine learning applications.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a proven track record of contributing to interdisciplinary projects.
  • Expertise with high-performance computing, cloud-based platforms, docker, and version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
