The Verna and Marrs McLean Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology is focused on using small molecules and biologics to understand and modify disease-relevant cellular processes.

The Department invites applications from outstanding scientists for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the field of chemical biology and drug discovery. Faculty in the department have diverse expertise, including drug discovery, enzymology, structural biology, biophysics, and biochemistry. Our drug discovery platforms include structure-guided drug design, fragment-based, DNA encoded library-based and target agnostic chemoproteomics-based drug discovery. The ideal candidate will provide complementary and synergistic expertise to our drug discovery efforts and develop an independent, funded research program in chemical biology. Our specific areas of interest for this position include protein/antibody design and engineering, functional genomics to understand pharmacology, structure-based drug design, proteomics and chemoproteomics, application of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the target identification and drug discovery process. For candidates with computational expertise, preference will be given to candidates with an experimental component to validate computational results.

The candidate will supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and contribute to the educational programs in the Department and College. Candidates should have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and postdoctoral experience as well as a strong record of research accomplishments.
