Summary

The Department of Dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine has an immediate opening for an experienced temporary Medical Assistant. The Dermatology Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine is a state of the art facility that treats patients with complex skins conditions, performs Mohs surgery on skin cancer patients, and offers cosmetic and laser procedures.

 

The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience in a fast paced, patient focused, and team-oriented outpatient clinical setting.  Experience in a dermatology clinic and/or surgical environment is not required, but strongly preferred.

 

This is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits. The maximum assignment length is three months. This position may convert to a permanent position.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as rooming patients, taking vital signs, drawing blood, specimen collection, administering tests, collecting patient history, and assisting the physician in the exam room.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation, and enters patient information into the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for the patient visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for the physician/physician assistant.
  • Assists with procedures as needed. Instructs patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Takes inventory and keeps patient exam rooms in orderly condition and appropriately stocked.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments, as needed.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Performs clerical/administrative duties such as scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Distributes clinic faxes and medical records to appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Encourages patients to enroll in and use BCM "My Chart" for patient communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited program.
  • No experience required
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA). New employees who are not currently certified must obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of Medical Assistant experience in a dermatology practice or academic setting.
  • Experience in cosmetic/laser/general dermatology.
  • Experience with Epic.
