Title:  Associate Professor/Professor (Cardiac Research)

Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an established independent investigator in cardiac basic science/translational research with an established interest in novel approaches to treating heart failure at the level of associate professor or professor. Responsibilities will include overseeing a robust laboratory research program, training surgical residents and postdoctoral fellows, and developing and sustaining ongoing collaborative relationships with research leadership throughout the department and the College's basic science departments. 


The 230 members of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, ranked 13th by the U.S. News & World Report for departments of surgery, practice at iconic institutions within the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical center, including Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, Ben Taub Hospital, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and the Texas Children's Hospital. The Department trains over 130 residents and fellows annually, including trainees in the only NRMP-listed residency track in global surgery. Our department Office of Surgical Research comprised of over 90 research specialists manage over 80 grants and nearly 200 active clinical studies supported by over $18 million in extramural funding annually. 
 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an PhD and/or MD or DO; strong history of federal grant support; successful track record of collaboration with clinical investigators and in interdisciplinary teams; successful track record of training students and postdoctoral fellows; accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an associate professor or professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine. While not required, having portable existing funding will be beneficial. Drug testing/background check is required prior to start.
