The Center for Professionalism at BCM was founded in 2013 with two missions: to enhance and support
professionalism throughout the institution and to establish a consistent and predictable path for identification and remediation of lapses of professionalism. Since its creation, the Center has had an expanding presence with participants from each of the BCM schools and affiliate institutions. The Center’s activities are intentionally aligned with Baylor's RIITE Values framework (Respect, Integrity, Innovation, Teamwork, and Excellence) as well as the Center's goal to create a culture of courage, compassion and connection at BCM, its affiliates, and other Texas Medical Center institutions. Our programs serve as a catalyst to assure that professionalism related topics form a fellowship of colleagues and focus of conversation across the campus to palpably demonstrate the institutional value that BCM places on professionalism. Our programs also help faculty, trainees, and staff enhance emotional intelligence, build skills that strengthen resilience, increase empathy, and combat burn out. Our programming is a multifaceted effort toward creating a high performance and collegial work and learning environment at Baylor.

Summary

The Center for Professionalism is looking for a physician who will contribute to the goals of the Center through the creating educational programs, participating in the remediation efforts regarding professionalism concerns, and establishing a liaison program among BCM Departments and affiliates and the Center to facilitate communication and address content needs.

Job Duties

In this .3 FTE position, the individual will report to and work collaboratively with the Director of the Center for Professionalism and will office within the Center. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • To independently create, develop and implement new professionalism initiatives which advance the missions and goals of the Center
  • To direct logistics and communications of Center activities to enhance collaboration with affiliates
  • To source speakers to participate in the Profiles in Professionalism Speaker Series
  • To conduct scholarly activity concerning Center activities and professionalism yielding publications and presentations at national meetings
  • To contribute to the Center’s efforts to remediate lapses in professionalism
  • To analyze and assess outcomes driven evaluations of Center Services
Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate for this position must have the following qualifications:

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree, and board certification in their specialty
  • Associate Professor, or higher
  • Experience and/or formal training in professionalism-related topics (e.g., communication skills,
  • providing feedback, etc]
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders and educators
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with discretion and maturity to uphold
  • confidentiality
  • Experience strategies to assess the outcomes driven evaluations of Center Services

 

The following qualifications for this position are highly desirable:

  • Formal educational training in professional education
  • Experience in outcomes assessment
  • Comfort with public speaking
