Department Summary

The Department of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) is seeking a doctoral level (PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM) or American Board of Pathology (ABP) board-certified or board-eligible clinical microbiologist for its Division of Laboratory Medicine. Academic appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

 

TCH is the nation's largest children's hospital and is ranked No. 4 in U.S. News and World Report's Honor Roll of Best Children's Hospitals. Expansion in the size and scope of Texas Children's Hospital necessitates additional support in infectious diseases diagnostic services. The annual microbiology, virology, serology and molecular infectious diseases test volumes exceed 300,000.

Job Duties

The Associate Director will 1) ensure that testing systems in the laboratory provide quality services in all aspects of test performance, are appropriate for the patient population, are timely, accurate and include results with pertinent information for test interpretation, 2) serve as the liaison for the department in the antimicrobial stewardship activities at TCH and direct generation, production and dissemination of the antibiograms, and 3) represent the section in matters related to the performance capabilities of the laboratory information system and electronic medical record in specimen management and reporting of infectious disease test results.

 

Laboratory directors at Texas Children's Hospital have primary full-time academic appointments in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, and are expected to contribute to educational and scholarly activities in the Department of Pathology based at TCH; BCM teaching opportunities are also available.  The Associate Director will provide hands-on teaching and coordinate didactic learning sessions for medical students, residents, fellows, and laboratory staff and serve as the associate program director for the CPEP-accredited post-doctoral medical microbiology fellowship program.
