Assistant Professor in Critical Care medicine needed for BCM’s dept. of Pediatrics section Critical Care.

Job Duties

  • Provide care to critically ill patients in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at affiliated Texas Children’s Hospital, incl. those on extracorporeal support after solid organ and stem cell transplant & after complex surgery incl. neurosurgery.
  • Provide round the clock care when needed to patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) including interfacility ECMO transports.
  • Play integral role in extracorporeal life support (ECLS) education, simulation, quality assurance & process development/improvement as it relates to ECLS therapies.
  • Maintain, demonstrate continued competencies in ECMO therapies thru participation in continuing professional development activities, structured educational forums, and active clinical practice.
  • Teach & mentor trainees of BCM (i.e. Pediatric Residents, Critical Care Medicine Fellows, Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers and Critical Care Jr. Faculty), oversee clinical research projects & participate in scholarly oversight committees.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine degree
  • Hold or able to obtain a Texas medical license
  • Board certified in Pediatrics
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
  • Specific post-fellowship training in pediatric ECMO in an ELSO-recognized institution in the U.S. or aboard
