Summary
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery (department) in the Division of Cardio/Thoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) seeks a highly qualified individual with a PhD and postdoctoral experience in Synthetic Biology. The Assistant Professor would serve as scientific lead for Dr. Ravi Ghanta, overseeing the Laboratory of Translational Technology, they would make decisions and take responsibility for scientific progress and help Dr. Ghanta manage the large team involved in the grant.
Under this role, the Assistant Professor will work in research projects involving CRISPR, gene therapy, and animal models of heart failure. The Assistant Professor is expected to be able to perform design of synthetic biotherapeutics, oversee experimental design of animal efficacy experiments, and analyze molecular and histologic outcomes. The Assistant Professor is also expected to lead the Ghanta Lab for Translational Therapeutics.
Job Duties
• Oversee and coordinate logistics and execution of various research projects.
• Manage project progress and execution of project goals and milestones.
• Plan and direct research experiments related to research studies implementing the MasSpec Pen technology for tissue analysis and cancer detection.
• Organize, evaluate, and analyze data with other researchers.
• Develop research techniques and perform applications required for specific research projects.
• Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
• Document results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
• Supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of the research team involved in multiple research projects.
• Write progress reports, manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Manage execution of experiments using mass spectrometry instrumentation, as well as data and statistical analysis.
• Lead clinical studies and participate in research involving human subjects. Interact directly with clinicians, surgeons, and pathologists to fulfill the aims of the research projects.
• Supervise research staff including graduate and undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education and Experience: Ph.D. in Synthetic Biology or Molecular Biology or Bioengineering. Successful track record of collaboration with clinical investigators and in interdisciplinary teams; accomplished academic record sufficient to fulfill criteria for an assistant professor level faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine.
