Summary

The Department of Medicine is seeking an Infectious Diseases physician (Assistant Professor – Tenure Track) for the Harris Health practice. With 14 sections, 10 centers, and six vice-chair groups, the Margaret M. and Albert B. Alkek Department of Medicine is the largest adult practice department at Baylor College of Medicine. We are one of the largest education programs in the US with more than 700 trainees, and highly competitive specialty fellowship training programs, including seven federally funded research training grants. Our healthcare providers see hundreds of thousands of patients in seven inpatient and outpatient facilities and our department’s clinical excellence is recognized in U.S. News and World Report. Our departmental research initiatives span the continuum of biomedical research from basic to clinical, attracting $128 million in total extramural funding, including more than $72 million from the NIH as well as other federal sources. The Infectious Diseases Harris Health practice sees patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases including general infectious diseases, complex surgical infections, tropical medicine, and HIV infection at Ben Taub Hospital, Smith Clinic, and Thomas Street at Quentin Mease Health Center.

 

The ideal candidate is patient-centered, and committed to excellence in providing quality care in an inpatient and outpatient setting and will have training or experience with an outpatient antibiotic therapy program.

 

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • 13 weeks of inpatient rounding at Ben Taub Hospital on the Infectious Diseases consult service
  • 2 half-day clinics per week in General ID clinic at Smith Clinic, Harris Health, when not rounding
  • 2 half-day clinics per week in HIV care at Thomas Street at Quentin Mease Health Center, Harris Health, when not rounding
  • Provide medical leadership to the outpatient antibiotics therapy program for Ben Taub Hospital

 

Qualifications

  • BC/BE Infectious Diseases
  • Current valid license to practice medicine in the State of Texas
  • Current DEA certificate (or in progress)
