Summary
The Research Tissue Support Services (RTSS) lab is recruiting for an Assistant Laboratory Director who can provide effective guidance and operation of the RTSS Laboratory in compliance with Departmental and Institutional goals. Will oversee day-to-day operations of the laboratory including, but not limited to, budget administration, personnel administration, regulatory administration, and reporting to customers, the Department, and the Institution. The Assistant Laboratory Director reports to the Assistant Director, Cancer/Hematology Center, Basic and Translational Research and has five direct reports.
The RTSS Core Lab interacts with other TXCH Cores on a daily basis, as well as with PACU, Surgery and Pathology to facilitate acquisition of specimens for immediate clinical and research use, as well as cyropreservation and storage for future use. Excellent communication skills, teamwork and customer service mindset, analytical mind, and accurate data entry skills are also essential for success in this position.
Job Duties
- Recognizes and solves administrative/operational problems
- Develops new methodologies and procedures (in conjunction with the Assistant Director and Technical Supervisor)
- Reviews evaluations for technical performance, quality control, maintenance; collates evaluation data for review; makes recommendation for implementation
- Works with the Technical Supervisor to troubleshoot equipment and method performance issues and develop appropriate correction actions
- Liaison/communicates with other sections, departments, physicians, nursing personnel, vendors, and others
- Organizes meetings of the technical staff, ad hoc work teams, and focus groups for new initiatives or projects, as needed
- Monitors expense reports with Technical Supervisors to stay within budget
- Collects and submits data for preparation of annual capital operating budgets
- Performs annual review of cost accounting data and makes changes as needed
- Performs annual review of technical procedures and manuals of operation
- Performs other job related duties as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Department Specific Criteria
- Ten years of experience in a laboratory setting.
- Laboratory experience handling human tissues/fluids required.
- Use of routine lab equipment (centrifuge, hood, pipettes, PPE, etc.) is required and experience with cell culture and/or cell separation techniques required.
- Laboratory and/or Specimen Biorepository experience.
