Salary Range:  $70,618 - $85,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Atherosclerosis Clinical Research Laboratory (ACRL) at Baylor College of Medicine has a position available for an Assistant Laboratory Director. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently with indirect supervision and will assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities. The ACRL is accredited by both the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Therefore, preference will be given to those applicants who have experience with CAP and CLIA regulations and good laboratory practices.

Job Duties

  • Plans, coordinates, and optimizes the general and scientific needs of the Atherosclerosis Clinical Research Laboratory. Provides professional guidance and technical support to faculty and principal investigators and acts as an administrator of the Atherosclerosis Clinical Research Laboratory.
  • Plans and organizes administrative operations of the laboratory.
  • Assumes a lead role in maintaining CAP accreditation for the laboratory and is responsible for coordinating CAP-related tasks and creating CAP-related records.
  • Communicates with clients regarding their research studies and submits research databases to Principal Investigators.
  • Participates in the development of departmental grant budgets and overseeing expenditures of grant monies.
  • Performs personnel management functions and supervises technical support staff.
  • Establishes procedures for management of the use of laboratory equipment including maintenance, repair, and inventory.
  • May design, implement, maintain and update intranet and internet laboratory web sites for both private lab and public access.
  • May coordinate and oversee the networking of internal laboratory computers.
  • Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory staff and ensures compliance. 
  • May participate in the development of grant budgets; oversee expenditures of grant monies; perform accounting functions; produce expenditure reports.
  • Coordinates procurement of equipment and supplies and manages all stages of the acquisition cycle.
  • Participates in establishing procedures for management of the use of laboratory equipment including maintenance, repair, and inventory.
  • May conduct laboratory research with Laboratory Director and/or Principal Investigator as opportunities are available.
  • Supports the laboratory director with other job-related duties as needed. 
  • Performs other job related duties as needed.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Basic Sciences
  • Grant writing skills
  • Training as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
