Summary

The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine, an academic center overseeing all adult cardiovascular services at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center and Baylor Medicine, all cardiovascular research, and education at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, is recruiting a dyad partner for the Center Director. The ideal candidate will have experience in an academic medicine environment with a strong history of strategic planning and growth, business development, financial management, research administration, and organizational leadership. As a collaboration between multiple departments at BCM, the Center administrator will be required to build strong partnerships with collaborating department administrators, chairs, principal investigators, and college leaders. Through an affiliate integration agreement, the Center administrator will report progress on the Strategic Integration Plan to the Baylor College of Medicine Joint Integration Council as well as the Texas Heart Institute Board of Trustees. The Administrator will be responsible for managing the financial support of the respective affiliate institutions and ensuring the responsible and compliant use of endowments and other contributions.  This position may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

Job Duties

Financial and Budget Management:

  • Oversees all financial operations for the Center's clinical, research, and educational programs with a combined Center portfolio of over $100M in collaboration and partnership with the member departments.
  • Prepares, monitors, and manages the annual budget in coordination with BCM’s finance office. 
  • Analyzes financial performance and provides data-driven recommendations to leadership for resource optimization and program growth. 

 

Operational Leadership:

  • Directs the daily administrative operations to support patient care, research, and academic missions. 
  • Develops and implements operational policies and procedures consistent with BCM and THI standards.
  • Coordinates the administrative support for cardiovascular research initiatives, clinical trials, and physician-led programs. 

 

Personnel and Human Resources Management:

  • Manages faculty, staff, and trainee personnel actions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Ensures staffing levels and competencies align with the Center's strategic priorities in cardiovascular medicine and research. 

 

Research and Education Coordination:

  • Partners with research administration to facilitate grant submissions, compliance, and post-award management.
  • Supports educational programs, including cardiology fellowships, residencies, and continuing medical education initiatives.
  • Ensures alignment of academic and research programs with BCM’s educational mission and accreditation standards.

 

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensures departmental adherence to all federal, state, institutional, and accrediting body regulations.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and regulatory compliance across all facilities and programs. 

 

Strategic Planning and Communication:

  • Participates in short and long-term strategic planning for the Center and departmental initiatives. 
  • Serves as a key liaison between THI leadership, BCM administration, affiliated hospitals, and external partners.
  • Communicates institutional updates, policies, and procedural changes to faculty and staff in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience will also be considered.
