Title: Accounting Specialist - Human Genome Sequencing Center
Summary
We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to participate in the financial management of the Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC), a world-class Research Center with an annual budget of $40 million per year. The Accounting Specialist will perform accounting duties for a department or section, including entering journal transactions, account reconciliation, and month-end processes. The ideal candidate will ensure that all transactions are made in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles: federal, state, and BCM guidelines.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and energetic self-starter with advanced Microsoft Excel experience. The Accounting Specialist is able to handle projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, independently or in team, with an innovative approach.
Job Duties
- Possesses advanced Microsoft Excel experience
- Participates in month-end close processes, including SAP entries on strict timeline
- Participates in monthly inventory and expense accrual process
- Tracks logs and payments StatusMonthly Invoicing & maintenance of invoice
- Monitors Funds Availability (FAB) and processes rebudget requests
- Prepares & analyzes Monthly Balance Reports for non-grant accounts
- Pulls and analyzes project-specific data from consolidated month-end data source (SSF data)
- Supports the Sample Intake process – developing project costs, verifying funds availability, tracking approved samples
- Supports PO – entry, follow-up and tracking
- Processes Journal Vouchers
- Completes accounting and finance transactions as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Four years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field in lieu of two years of experience
- Advanced in Microsoft Excel
