Job Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director of Academic Technologies, the Academic Solutions Support Manager provides planning and design of software applications which support Baylor College of Medicine's academic mission, maintenance and support of the student information system, coordinating software development projects and requests, and provide mentoring and supervision of software developers in the academic solutions support team.  This role also serves as the demand manager for the software development team, ensuring all tickets are worked according to OIT service level agreements.

Job Duties

Application Management

  • Coordinates and participates in the planning and maintenance of software applications developed and supported by Academic Solutions Support team 
  • Responsible for the maintenance and support of the student information system including periodic software updates
  • Understands integration and use of programming languages, database management systems, and internet tools to propose and develop solutions to application projects 
  • Ensures all systems and processes supported by the team are well documented and easily accessible in the knowledge base
  • Plans full project life cycle and recommends approaches to improve efficiencies and deployment timelines 
  • Participates in technology selection efforts and build vs. buy decisions 
  • Uses software development best practices to translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Leads large projects and supervises software development staff in promoting high performance culture and cost effectiveness across teams 
  • Consults other team members (e.g. project manager, business analyst) when needed to ensure software development projects are completed on time, within budget, and within agreed scope

Team Management

  • Leads a team of software developers in the design, development, and support of software applications and to meet the needs of the academic mission of the College 
  • Assists with recruitment of new team members, and manages direct reports including interviewing, hiring, mentoring, reviewing and evaluating work, and preparing yearly performance appraisal reports
  • Promotes sharing of domain expertise as well as provides technical leadership and knowledge across the academic solutions support team 
  • Ensures adequate cross training among staff of all academic solutions

Financial Management

  • Assists with developing plans and budgets for information projects related to academic applications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree.
  • Required: Four years of relevant experience.  Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.
