The Academic Services Associate will provide academic advising to students and trainees in the School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and School of Health Professions, in addition to learners in non-degree granting programs.

The ideal candidate is responsible for supporting the academic excellence of all Baylor learners through our peer tutoring program, workshops, seminars, and other Academic Success Center initiatives. The Academic Services Associate is a highly organized self-starter with experience in direct instruction and individual student support. 

Job Duties

• Provides academic advising by assessing learning deficiencies and developing individual support plans to serve medical, health professional, and biomedical sciences students and trainees (50%)
• Creates and delivers in-person and virtual workshops and lectures on a wide range of topics to learners across schools and programs to support their development of self-regulated and self-directed learning skills (i.e., learning and study strategies)(5%)
• Supervises peer tutors across multiple subject areas and schools and regularly assess services for continuous quality improvement (20%)
• Manages work-study students by providing trainings and setting expectations for job responsibilities(7.5%)
• Collaborates with school and program leadership, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to assess and develop Academic Success Center resources and services that are in alignment with curriculum and academic standards (2.5%)
• Collaborates with stakeholders within Baylor and the Texas Medical Center (e.g., Education Technology, TMC Library) to assess learner needs and enhance resources and services at Baylor College of Medicine (2.5%)
• Manages and assesses Academic Success Center and relevant Student and Trainee Services data for continuous process improvement of academic services and the development of annual reports for institutional leadership (2.5%)
• Collects and analyzes data and research to support the scholarly activities and output of the Academic Success Center (e.g., preparation of materials for professional conferences and publications) (2.5%)
• Develops and manages educational content and resources to be delivered through various in-person and online platforms (2.5%)
• Develops creative marketing strategies and informational materials to engage learners in utilizing the Center’s resources and services for both print and web (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, psychology, humanities, or a related field
  • Highly organized/efficient and a self-starter
  • Experience in:
    • Direct instruction
    • Individual student support (academic advising, career advising, tutoring, etc.)
    • Office 365
    • Zoom
