Summary
Under the supervision of Pathologist and Pathologists' Assistants, the Grossing Technologist is responsible for gross examination of small and uncomplicated specimens, and the processsing of tissue.
This position is located in Bryan, TX.
Job Duties
- Assures appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
- Maintains the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
- Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.
- Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.
- Performs grossing moderate to high complex/complicated specimens under direct and indirect supervision, as applicable to training and experience.
- Records measurements, weight, volume, and any abnormal findings as applicable.
- Dissects surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
- The level of supervision for each specimen type will be determined by the Laboratory Director and Medical Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a science related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in a science related field (preferably biology or physiology) with at least 24-semester hours of combined credits in biology and chemistry.
