Summary
Baylor College of Medicine's Huffington Department of Education, Innovation, and Technology (EIT) seeks to fill an Educational Research and Program Evaluation (Quantitative) faculty position. This is a full-time faculty position (faculty rank dependent on expertise and experience).
Huffington Department of EIT anchors education-one of Baylor College of Medicine's mission areas-as a discipline at the college, with an academic focus on the science of teaching and learning. Members of the department contribute to a growing body of specialized knowledge related to how people learn and effective educational practices.
Faculty members in the department have diverse sets of knowledge and skills related to educational research and evaluation, technology applications, scientific and clinical teaching, commercialization, and research coordination.
Job Duties
- Design and develop data collection and program evaluation tools to conduct in-depth studies.
- Engage in research-related activities in diverse settings and conduct analysis of program process and outcome data.
- Initiate and conduct a program of unique research related to health and biomedical science education.
- Conduct reviews of program-related documents, data files, published information, and official reports.
- Consult appropriate personnel to facilitate ongoing process of program design, implementation, and revision.
- Draft written reports and presentations related to evaluation process and findings.
- Assist in formulating research objectives and programs and in determining the scope and methodologies of research projects and areas to be evaluated.
- Work with researchers on the development of educational investigations and interventions, and interpretation of results for research and teaching.
- Coordinate the collection, compilation, and analysis of research data, including the use of statistical methods and relational databases to analyze data sets.
- Prepare and deliver presentations for professional organizations, governmental entities, and the public.
- Communicate research results through conference presentations, scientific publications, and/or project reports.
- Provide consulting support to academic departments in their assessment, program evaluation, and accreditation efforts.
- Lead or participate in proposal writing and coordination for external funds.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) in a pertinent scientific or educational field, with experience in current methodologies for the analysis of large data sets in education.
- Demonstrated understanding of the conceptual and theoretical issues that underlie research and evaluation, particularly in education.
- Knowledge of research and evaluation design, particularly quantitative methodologies.
- Experience in designing studies around educational research problems using appropriate methodologies.
- Track record of scholarly productivity in a particular methodology or area of educational research.
- Strong academic writing skills, with the ability to critically read and synthesize academic research in education and related fields.
- Ability to serve as a collaborator or team contributor to multiple concurrent projects.
- Ability to engage with, listen to, and learn from a broad range of evaluation stakeholders, encouraging their meaningful participation.
- Strong motivation to make an impact and the ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve goals.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Ability to understand the context of a program and how it affects program planning, implementation, outcomes, and evaluation.
- Commitment to ensuring that evaluation and educational research activities are done in a culturally competent manner.
