Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Student and House Staff Mental Health Service is responsible for providing mental health services to all eligible medical students, graduate students, and health profession students.  Additionally, services are provided to all eligible trainees (residents and clinical fellows) funded through the GME office.  This position is based at the BCM Houston Campus and may involve providing virtual services to learners on the Temple, TX campus as well.  The position is full-time. 
 
This part-time position is 100% effort and reports to the Director of the Student and House Staff Mental Health Service, Dr. Heather Goodman. There is the option to tele-commute two days a week, with at three days required to be on site.

Job Duties

  • Direct patient care responsibilities include evaluation and treatment.
  • Performs time-limited individual and couples’ psychotherapy using evidence-based therapy modalities such as ACT and CBT.
  • Assists with referrals to the community when warranted.
  • Attends monthly team meetings and case conferences.
  • Provides documentation, including letters, treatment summaries/records, and oral communication when requested (e.g., for appeals, leaves of absence, transfer of care, and to the Texas Medical Board if indicated.)
  • Is available after-hours (after 5 pm) at least 2 days/week, to better meet the needs of learners’ schedules.  
  • Participates in both virtual and in-person visits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience. 
  • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed  Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)  Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor (LCSW-S) and Licensed Professioinal Counselor-Supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in evidence-based suicide prevention skills highly desired, e.g., CAMS.
  • Advanced skills in evidence-based treatments such as ACT, DBT, and CBT.
  • Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams based at the Houston campus, and possess knowledge of therapeutic modalities employed by team members.
  • Experience at a health science university working with biomedical students and trainees.
  • Proficiency and experience with couples/marital therapy in addition to individual therapy.
