Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology is currently seeking an assistant professor to develop a research program in vascular biology, especially endothelial biology, to facilitate vascular research in ocular diseases.  Research programs the candidate develops include vascular biology in the general cardiovascular field, with high potential to expand to vascular disorders in the ocular field. 

Job Duties

1. Designs vascular research projects, submits relevant grant applications to seek grant support from AHA, ADA, or NIH.
2. Selects and determines appropriate research procedures; participates in the performance of the experiments; collects, compiles, and analyzes data, as well as documents and interprets experimental results.
3. Drafts abstracts and manuscripts for presentation at conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
4. Trains graduate students and Postdoc fellows.
5. Communicates with lab staff and assigns tasks to appropriate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:  M.D. or Ph.D in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.

Experience Required:
• Candidates should have a Ph.D. in life sciences and have gained significant Postdoc fellow training, and should publish rigorous, high-quality research. Experience with molecular/cellular biology, genetics, or biochemistry is preferred.
• Prior experience in a faculty position to gain expertise in training fellows, management of a research lab, and securing research grants. 
• Excellent communication skills in coordinating collaborations.
