Summary

The research faculty member will support the strategic plan and educational research missions of the Division of Medical Education Research and Scholarship in the Office of the Senior Dean, Baylor College of Medicine.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Medical Education Research and Scholarship, the research faculty member offers consultations on educational research and scholarship, supports the process of research dissemination, and engages in medical education research projects as deemed appropriate by the Assistant Dean of Medical Education Research and Scholarship. This role is primarily meant to mentor and develop the careers of BCM faculty and trainees in medical education research and scholarship.

 

Duties

Consultation

  • Provide at least 5 consultations per month, assisting faculty and trainees in research design, methodology, analysis, and IRB protocol development.

Course Development and Teaching

  • Develop and launch 2 elective courses on education research topics within the first two years. Create additional courses as needed.
  • Maintain a course rating of at least 4.5/5 on participant evaluations.
  • Collaborate in the launch of the Medical Education Teaching and Scholarship (METS) pathway in the first year. After launch, continue to support course development and teaching within the METS pathway.

Workshop Development and Delivery

  • Design and deliver or recruit individuals to deliver at least 3 faculty/staff workshops per year on topics related to education research methods and scholarship.
  • Achieve a satisfaction rating of 4.5/5 or higher on workshop evaluations.
  • Develop reusable resources (e.g., slides, handouts, recordings) for workshops, increasing accessibility and long-term impact.

Duties Continue

Support for Scholarly Outputs

  • Support faculty and trainees as co-author or consultant in submitting at least 6 conference abstracts and/or papers annually. This may require assisting in research design, data collection, data analysis, development/review of written drafts, and/or guidance on journal/article type selection.
  • Collaborate on the submission of at least two medical education research grants annually. Seek new grant opportunities and maintain a list of such opportunities.
  • Streamline the scholarly writing process by creating or curating at least 3 shareable resources (e.g., templates, guides, or checklists) within the first year. Create additional resources as needed.

Division-Specific Activities

  • Collaborate on developing the Division’s regular communications in a timely manner (e.g., monthly newsletter).
  • Track medical education research output by BCM faculty and learners (e.g., tracking conference presentations, publications).
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new Division activities and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum doctoral degree in education, psychology, or other relevant discipline with a concentration or expertise in research methods. ABD applicants will be considered.

  • Skilled in conducting focus groups and interviews for qualitative data collection and analysis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of statistical software (e.g., R), survey programs (e.g., Redcap), bibliographic software (e.g., Zotero), and advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications.
  • Ability to effectively integrate AI into workflow to improve efficiency.
