Job Title:  Research Associate - Spatial Epidemiology

Salary Range:  $70,000 - $80,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Center for Precision Environmental Health at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced Research Associate to contribute to interdisciplinary projects spanning spatial epidemiology, environmental health, and public health informatics. The position will support the Geospatial Analysis and Health Outcomes Shared Resource (GHSR) by integrating and analyzing geospatial, demographic, and health data. The Research Associate will work with diverse research teams to develop analytical pipelines, visualizations, and manuscripts that inform community and research initiatives.

Job Duties

  • Conduct spatial data processing and geospatial analyses using ArcGIS Pro and related tools.
  • Prepare, clean, and integrate environmental, demographic, and health datasets.
  • Develop reproducible workflows using Python and R to support data transformation, visualization, and statistical modeling.
  • Contribute to the design of geospatial dashboards, static maps, and visuals for peer-reviewed publications and community dissemination.
  • Participate in scientific writing and support the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
  • Collaborate with investigators, analysts, and trainees on cross-cutting projects involving spatial and statistical methods.
  • Lead or support methodological documentation, code management (e.g., GitHub), and reproducibility best practices.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field.  Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public health or a related field
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and spatial analysis methods (e.g., geocoding, buffer analysis, OD cost matrix).
  • Strong skills in Python (e.g., pandas, geopandas), R, and version control tools such as Git/GitHub.
  • Experience working with environmental exposure data, survey data, or population-level health indicators.
  • Prior contributions to peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.
  • Familiarity with IRB processes, reproducible research practices, and interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
