Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Pediatrics Division of Tropical Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician III to work in the Laboratory for Infectious Disease Epidemiology. The technician will support research that aims to understand the risk of vector-borne disease in Texas. This position will primarily support vector collection, vector processing, and laboratory testing. 

Job Duties

  • Conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned
  • Under the supervision of the PI, conducts laboratory-based evaluation of collected vectors. Techniques that include: species evaluation, DNA/RNA Extraction, PCR, and sequencing.
  • Analyzes and interprets PCR and sequencing data.
  • Conduct field collections of vectors. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Basic Science, epidemiology, or related field.
  • Previous experience with working in a wet lab
