Title: Instructor - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Summary
This position offers a unique experience at our Texas Children's Hospital Main Campus for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric infectious diseases. The Infectious Diseases Division in the Department of Pediatrics functions as a multidisciplinary team of attending physicians, fellows, advanced practice providers, pharmacists and medical learners committed to the care of patients with proven or probable infectious diseases. The primary clinical site for this position is in the inpatient setting at Texas Children's Hospital's Main Campus, the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, and an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Currently, the infectious diseases consult teams each see roughly 20 patients per day and over 1500 consults annually. The NP/Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and pediatric fellows and other learners in the care of children with simple and complex infectious diseases requiring a wide range of care.

Job Purpose
Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
- Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
- Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
- Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner: Master's degree in in Nursing.
- Physician Assistant: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
Certification/Licenses/Registration:
- Nurse Practitioner: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), with acute care certification (CPNP-AC) required.
- Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department.
